I witnessed this recently with my friend having a hell of a time getting Fable 3 Steam to even launch, or show anything other than black screens at times, where as my disc version went through just fine after getting past the Zero Day Protection nonsense. With GFWL games I would strongly recommend sticking to disc versions to avoid problems, especially since Steam 'takes care' of a few things with regards to GFWL, which sometimes adds to the confusion. I never touched Steam versions of GFWL games - it was double the DRM with double the possibilities of things going wrong.
